Why become a BBTS Member?

The British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) was founded in 1983. Membership is for anyone with a professional interest in the practice of blood transfusion and related medical therapies. It extends from donor recruitment through to the clinical and scientific care of recipients, and includes those involved with organ and tissue banking.

Membership encompasses those involved in donation collection, processing, testing, preservation and administration, and includes donation publicists, nurses, doctors and scientists. Hospital blood bankers - including those working in private institutions - are particularly encouraged to join. The Society has a Council whose members are elected to serve 3 years, and its officers are the President, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer.

Membership is world-wide and at present is normally limited to medical, scientific, nursing, donor organisers and allied personnel working in the field of blood transfusion.

Senior membership is offered to eligible members upon retirement. Honorary membership of the Society can also be granted by Council to persons of distinction, the number being restricted to 10.

Membership

The current membership is in the region of 1,800 individuals.

The BBTS also has a number of Corporate Members.
