Benefits of membership include receipt of the Society's bi-monthly journal "Transfusion Medicine" and of the Society's quarterly Newsletter. The journal is of international renown and is currently edited by Prof Jean-Pierre Allain, of Cambridge University. The Newsletter carries items of news and articles of interest - including book reviews and professional updates.
The Society organises a 3-day Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) each year - during which the Annual General Meeting for business takes place. The ASM offers opportunities for members to present their work and experience in the form of short oral presentations or posters. The highlights are the James Blundell and Kenneth Goldsmith Award Lectures, given by eminent practitioners of Transfusion Science or Transfusion Medicine.
There is also an opportunity for young scientists to present their work at a special Young Scientists' Symposium. An extensive commercial exhibition allows detailed contact with companies which supply equipment and reagents for all transfusion purposes - including, for example, suppliers of donor beds. |

Members and exhibitors can meet socially, particularly at the Annual Dinner held at each ASM. Members can attend the ASM at reduced rates.
There are also currently nine "Special Interest Groups" (SIGs), which members can join freely. A wide field of interests within the broad spectrum of Transfusion Science and Medicine is covered.
The SIGs usually hold one meeting at the venue of the ASM on the day before the full meeting, and often organise extra meetings throughout the year. Proceedings of these Meetings are usually reported either in the Newsletter or in Special Reports issued with the Newsletter; and sometimes in other specialist journals.
